The cloisonne process is one that goes back centuries and is only done in China. It is their national handicraft and we work directly with highly trained artisans who individually create each ornament based off of the design we create. The process starts with a copper form which is hammered into the shape. The wires that form the design (words, buildings, shapes, etc) are formed and shaped by hand. Those shapes are then fired onto the copper ball. The paint, which is a powdered glass enamel paint, is put into the 'cloisons' or shapes created by the wires. It is fired again and then polished and buffed to create a smooth polished surface. The final step is 24k gold electroplating. This gives the ornament a radiant and illuminating effect. They are very special and individual works of art. Each ornament also comes in individual silk covered boxes.
We hold many collegiate licenses and work with other professional licensors. We are always willing to discuss adding new licenses and are open working directly with a group so we do not have to obtain the license.

From Design to Finished Product - What to Expect
No two cloisonné ornaments are exactly alike. It is important to have realistic expectations when working with this special medium; the finished product is not meant to be an exact replica of the approved art. The mock-up drawing and final product will have acceptable variations as it is ultimately an interpretation of the approved art.
Every detail of every ornament is assembled by hand, and because of this, each ornament is considered a work of art. Ornaments within the same order and from the same design will most likely vary slightly within a range of acceptability. This is because there could be several artisans working on the same design, so variations are expected and are also part of what makes the cloisonné medium so special!
All of the ornaments are inspected meticulously several times and approved to have met our production standards before shipment to each customer. Besides obvious mistakes (spelling errors, incorrect wording, etc.), slight variations are expected with this medium.
